NATURE TRAIL UPDATE - The heavy equipment portion of our nature trail should get under way this week but there are a few things listed below that we could use volunteers for: Truck to pick up mulch and sand; Butterfly garden (flower planting, donation of a butterfly house); Hauling off trash and limbs; Mowing/weed eating/tree trimming; Leveling gravel as it is laid down - we will have to coordinate this with Brian Pedrick who is putting the gravel down. RELAY FOR LIFE - All Relay for Life money must be in by Thursday, April 1st. The kiss the goat contest will be announced on Thursday around 2:00 if anyone would like to come. It will be in the school parking lot. Please send in the candy and soda by Thursday, April 1st. Anyone spending the night at the Relay for Life must have a parent or guardian with them.
SPRING PARTIES - Class spring parties will be April 9th not April 8th because of snow make-up days.
IF YOUR STUDENT WILL BE OUT FOR TRAVEL OR VACATION PURPOSES - All public schools are required to follow the School Attendance and Student Accounting Policies as set by NCDPI Compliance/Audit/Policy Section. As per the stated policy, there are only seven types of absences (and tardies) that have been deemed lawful (excused). Regarding the valid/lawful excuses for temporary nonattendance of a student at school, specifically Educational Opportunity: Chapter 2, IV, Attendance, D. Lawful Absences: The superintendent, principal or teacher who is in charge of a school has the right to excuse a student temporarily from attendance on account of sickness or other unavoidable case or when it is demonstrated that the purpose of the absence is to take advantage of a valid education opportunity, such as travel. Approval for such an
absence must be granted prior to the absence.
CTBS TESTING DATES - LCS Students will be taking CTBS (A national standardized test) on Wednesday, April 7th and Thursday, April 8th. More information will follow.
PTO BOARD NOMINATIONS ARE NEEDED NOW - We need nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS- April 8th - full day; April 9th - 1/2 day; April 16th -full day; May 21st - 1/2 day; and Monday, May 24th - 1/2 day.
